HOW FLYING WILL CHANGE IN THE NEXT DECADE

Good air shotA panel of airline industry experts has outlined the way we will be flying in the coming decade. The Future Travel Experience Think Tank Panel sees the following vision in store for travelers:

  • Passengers will already be check-in when they arrive at the airport
  • Their bags  will be pre-tagged at home and passengers will go through biometric validation at airport checkpoints
  • There will be widespread adoption of off-airport locations for dropped luggage. Only a small percentage of flyers will actually bring their luggage to the airport.
  • Immigration processing will be close to 100% self-service.
  • Aircraft boarding will be automated.
  • Passengers will arrive at the terminal via high-speed people movers
  • Passengers will interact with robots roaming the terminals. The robots will be in virtual contact with airport personnel, most of whom will work off-site.

We wonder about the last prediction. It was our impression that most airport employees already work off-site.
